Theatre and cinema

Osijek boasts a rich and longstanding theatrical tradition. The city is home to the Croatian National Theatre, built in 1866, which offers a diverse program featuring drama, musical performances, and ballet. Throughout the year, it hosts special events such as Open Theatre Days, New Year's concerts, and Opera Night in June.

In addition to the main theatre, Osijek also has a smaller venue in the Lower Town, primarily dedicated to comedy performances, providing a more intimate and entertaining experience for visitors.

Film enthusiasts can enjoy screenings at two main cinemas—the historic Urania Cinema, located in the city center, and a selection of modern cinemas within the Portanova shopping mall.
