Sport and recreation

Osijek is a city with a deep passion for sports, offering a wide range of facilities for both professionals and amateurs.

In 2009, it hosted the Men’s Handball World Championship, for which a brand-new multi-purpose hall was constructed. The city also boasts two basketball clubs and a football club. When it comes to recreational sports, the options are nearly endless—almost every sport imaginable can be enjoyed in Osijek.

From Aikido and badminton to bowling, volleyball, and water polo, there is something for everyone. One of the most popular sports venues among students and locals is Srednjika, the main high school playground in Osijek. This dynamic outdoor space is a hub for basketball, football, and various recreational activities, fostering a vibrant sports culture in the heart of the city.

During the summer, a visit to the Copacabana outdoor pool is a must, offering not only a refreshing swim but also a breathtaking view of the city's landmarks.

A major attraction in June is the Pannonian Challenge, an annual festival celebrating urban culture and extreme sports, featuring BMX, skateboarding, and inline skating competitions.

For nature and animal lovers, the Osijek Zoological Garden and Aquarium is a must-see. It is home to over 100 species and holds the title of Croatia’s largest zoo in terms of land area.
